My publications fall into three main groups – those linked to children’s literature, minority groups, particularly the Romanies, and art. My PhD was on a German author best known for her teenage fiction, Gudrun Pausewang. Her portrayal of immigrant children in Germany led me to study other teenage books about ethnic minorities. This in turn sparked off what was to become the main focus of my research – Europe’s largest ethnic minority group, the Romanies.
This research interest led to my translating two novels by Austrian award-winning author Ludwig Laher into English. Both have Romanies as central characters.
